Chiller Descaler
Why is Descaling Required in Chillers?
Chillers circulate cold liquid, either water or formulated refrigerant, in process operations to provide cooling to equipment or space. They minimize heat transfer and maximize process efficiency. However, chillers can experience malfunctions or breakdowns without proper care, resulting in decreased efficiency and possible damage.
Throughout the process, condensers accumulate scale from mineral deposits left behind by the liquid supply. Maintaining a chiller or condenser requires descaling to remove mineral deposit buildup. Chiller descaling chemicals safely dissolve scale buildup, such as limescale, calcium carbonate, rust, and more, to keep equipment performing as intended and reduce failure.
Chiller Descaling Procedure
- Ensure the makeup water valve to the tower basin is closed, all other water treatment is stopped, along with related meters, and fans are turned off.
- Clear all foreign matter possible before cleaning.
- Close the bleed-off valve and lower the water level in the tower basin, where it can perform a circulation of the solution.
- Begin circulation of product in the system, foaming and bubbling can be a reaction to the scale. To reduce, place the product in slowly.
- While the product is in circulation, test the pH to see how the cleaning progresses and approaches the spent pH.
- If the product is spent and there is still scale in the system, more product is needed, and repeat steps 4-5.
- Once cleaning is completed, cycle the product from the system, followed by an inspection. Turn on the meter and other equipment, return valves per manufacturer’s recommendations, and begin regular system operation.
- Dispose of the solution according to local regulations.
Applications for Chiller Descaling Chemicals
There are various applications across industries that benefit from chiller descaling. Chiller descaling chemicals can be used to safely remove scale and mineral deposit buildup in evaporative condenser descaling, shell and tube condenser descaling, and absorption unit descaling, as well as applications for the following industries:
- Petroleum
- Chemical
- HVAC
- Restaurants
- Utilities
- Paper
- Rendering
- Metals
Scale Remover STSR for Chiller Descaling
Some chiller descalers may use harsh or hazardous chemicals to remove buildup. Struvite Removal has formulated Scale Remover STSR with non-hazardous chemicals that are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, safe to handle with unbroken skin, and non-corrosive to steel. Able to remove struvite, vivianite, limescale, calcium carbonate, and other mineral deposits, Scale Remover STSR is highly effective for chiller descaling procedures.
Scale Remover STSR has applications for descaling, buildup prevention dosing, and scale control. Due to the non-corrosive, non-hazardous composition, Scale Remover STSR won’t damage your equipment. Additionally, we can formulate custom STSR solutions with additives like thickeners or foaming solutions for individualized descaling agents for your requirements.
